Shipbuilding runs on pipe. A single vessel contains kilometres of piping — fuel and oil systems, ballast and bilge lines, cooling water circuits, hydraulic systems, exhaust trunking, handrails and structural tube — much of it bent to fit the curves and confined spaces of a ship. DuralBend builds the heavy-duty machines shipyards and marine fabricators rely on to produce this piping.
Marine Piping Is Heavy and Demanding
Shipbuilding pushes pipe bending into larger diameters and thicker walls than general fabrication deals with. Cooling water lines, exhaust trunking and structural pipe have to be bent without collapsing or thinning the wall, because a marine piping system has to hold up against pressure, corrosion and decades of service at sea. And the pipe has to route accurately through the congested, confined spaces of a vessel, so the machine needs both the clamping power for heavy-wall pipe and the precision to route complex runs.
Recommended Machines
Atlas B Hydraulic NCFor straightforward marine bending, the larger Atlas B NC models are built for heavy-wall pipe up to Ø170 mm at a lower investment than CNC.
EOS Full Electric CNCFor smaller marine tube up to Ø60 mm — instrument lines and small fluid and air circuits found throughout a ship.
Atlas BR Semi-AutoFor repeated pipe runs and standard fittings produced in series — servo rotation for repeatable multi-plane bends.
End Forming and Chamfering
Marine piping connections often require formed or chamfered pipe ends — for welding, flanged joints or slip-fit connections. The Vulcan End Forming reshapes pipe ends as needed, configured for the diameter and wall thickness of marine pipe. Clean, properly chamfered ends mean sound welds — which matters enormously in shipbuilding, where so much piping is welded and the weld has to hold against pressure and corrosion for the life of the vessel. The Bora chamfering machines prepare those ends reliably.
Built for Heavy Marine Production
DuralBend machines work with the materials marine work uses — mild steel, stainless steel and the corrosion-resistant grades marine piping demands — with tooling configured for heavy-wall pipe. The heavy mechanical build is essential, because bending large marine pipe puts serious forces through the machine, and DuralBend machines are built to take it and hold accuracy over years of demanding shipyard production. Whether you are a shipyard setting up a pipe shop, a marine fabricator, or an offshore equipment manufacturer, send us your pipe specification or a drawing and we will recommend the configuration.
